6 Things To Do In East Tennessee This Fall

Fall is our favorite time of year. Surrounded by rolling mountains, East Tennessee is a dream come true when the weather cools off and the leaves change color. To celebrate the season, here are some fun, autumn activities to do with your friends and family. From hiking to Eagle Rock to carving pumpkins, there’s something for everyone on this list.

1. Hike part of the Cumberland Trail.

With the Cumberland Gap nearby, fall is the perfect time to take advantage of the outdoors. The Eagle Bluff Section of the Cumberland Trail is known for being a rocky 11-mile hike, so you can choose to be adventurous and hike the whole thing, or hike halfway and visit Eagle Rock. Either way, you are bound to see the leaves in all their splendor and maybe even a waterfall.

2. Host a football viewing party or throw a tailgate.

Fall is football time in Tennessee. Whether you plan to sit in the stands, or watch from the comfort of your home, there’s no better way to enjoy the game than with good friends and good food. Pick your favorite rivalry, invite your friends, and be sure to keep snacks on hand. After all, cheering on the Vols is hard work. Want to throw the best tailgate of the season? Check out all our tips and ideas in this blog post.

3. Visit a pumpkin patch or conquer a corn maze.

What’s fall without pumpkins and corn? Catch a hay ride to the pumpkin patch and pick one to carve with your loved ones. Or, if you have a couple hours to spare, take a stroll through the corn maze – just try not to get lost! We love going to Oakes Farm in Corryton, TN or Deep Well Farm in Lenoir City, TN around this time of year. Both farms have activities for the whole family, including slides and a petting zoo. Be sure treat yourself to some hot apple cider or caramel apples while you’re there.

4. Visit a haunted house.

All the ghosts and goblins are out to play, so round up your bravest friends and family and head to a haunted house for some seasonal thrills and chills. Dead Man’s Farm in Lenoir City, TN offers escape rooms and haunted houses for all who dare. But don’t worry, there’s a scare free zone if you’re not up for a fright. FrightWorks in Powell, TN offers five fright zones to match your most terrifying nightmares. Wherever you choose to go, be prepared to scream!

5. Have a bonfire.

Nothing is cozier than the warmth of a bonfire in your backyard. Once you’ve found an appropriate spot, collect your tinder, line the perimeter with stones or bricks, and gather around the flames to make unforgettable autumn memories. To take your bonfire to the next level, grab some graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows to make s’mores.

6. Spend quality time with your loved ones.
